I am planning to build a real estate website and wanted to get a referral for a hosting provider.  Has anyone used Hostgator.com?  Others?

I use totalchoicehosting.com.  You should choose a host based on what your needs are and what you plan on doing on your web site.

If you are doing a static web site pretty much any host will work, but try to find somebody that has used them and has been happy with the up time.

If you need to collect data, which I imagine you would (ie clients fill in info so you can call them) and you want to do it yourself you can use a number of different software packages.  I happen to use Microsoft Front Page, it allows me to collect info and store it on a text file on the server and it also immediately sends it to me via an email.

If you don't want to do it yourself you could probably have a page setup for you for about $500-600 depending on what you want.  I had one setup for one of my clients last month and paid about $500 or so to have it setup.

hostgator would probably be fine for you. I've used lunarpages in the past and they have been great.

Taddy is right, you can probably expect to pay around 300-500 for a simple form setup on the site and have the info emailed to you. Well it depends if you have someone offshore do it. I normally charge in the 300-500 range for a simple form.
