I'm not sure whether you're aware or not, but the software that drives your "old board" is the most popular software for message boards. The reason is that it has every feature a user requires, and it works.

On the new board, unread messages are highlighted, but once the message is read and the message refreshed, the read message remains highlighted as unread. It appears there is no spell checker on the new board.

I think the new board highlights misspelled words in red. What software do you think drives this old board?

We can copy the content. We can't make it look and feel exactly like it was though.

I don't know the name, but I have seen it used extensively. If you ask your web host, they can tell you the name.

I think its proprietary. Otherwise we could get a copy and import all the content exactly.

I agree 110%.  The new board's layout has improved, but I still very much prefer the old board.

That said, if you do still decide to suspend the old board, definitely do not lose the content or searchability features of the old board.  I'd suggest doing a beta test of whatever porting method you're going to use, and getting feedback before switching off the old board.  This board is one of the best repositories of real estate knowledge that I know of.  I was just doing some searches on here yesterday, and I would really hate to lose that capability.

Greg,

From having to manually type in the text color I want to use, without knowing what "text colors" are recognized, since there's no assistance that I'm seeing, to the fact that I can't quote anyone and make it clear whom I'm quoting, and the fact that there is no WYSIWYG feature, this new forum is just the pits to use.

Please don't force us to wade through this crap.  I thought it would get better, but I'm just more and more disappointed and frustrated using it.  Frankly, I'm not sure I've got the patience for this new deal regardless of how it "looks".  It's not about looks, it's about function.  And this new board will never function like this one, without a major overhaul, or abject duplication of the old structure.  It's just a different animal.

The new board looks like something being sold to internet marketers to offer as an upsell for their products, but not really designed for function.

That said, I do like the fact that I can lengthen the editing window with a few clicks, but it reverts on every preview, since there is, again, no WYSIWYG feature.

Also, I like the fact that...

Well there isn't anything else I like.

Anyway...

Javipa

I believe the name of the software is vBulletin by a company called  Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. Their website is http://www.vbulletin.com/ and the software is available for purchase or lease. I hope this helps.

And that's exactly the point I tried to make in one of my previous rants; Internet surfers are a skittish bunch.  If a site requires much patience at all, they're going to move on in a heartbeat.  If posters are forced to use an interface they don't like, the activity level on this board will definitely drop.

The value of this board is in the INFORMATION that's posted here, not fancy graphics, tracking capabilities, or whatever.  It would be a shame to lose a resource and a community like this. (Snif)

I, for one, would be more than willing to pay a surcharge on my membership in order to keep this board open.  I tried forcing myself to get into the new format, but just can't do it.  This board is still far superior.

Will whoever is the last poster on this website please turn out the light?

BTW, I wonder who has the honor of being last poster on this website?

Also, if we are going to lay this place to rest, doesn't it deserve a decent burial?  Even homeless get a service.

Greg,

You (and Phil??) obviously could give a rat's behind what the members of this community think (ie., overwhelmingly that the old board should stay), so might I ask: Why did you ask for the community's feedback only to ignore it? Do you enjoy wasting everyone's time?

Per popular demand we will restore the old forum. The new forum will be suspended soon. For now keep posting here.  Thanks for all your feedback.

Greg, I am impressed. It takes some character to make such a decision.
I would've bet 1:100 the old forum would be closed soon.
Congratulations and I hope you'll (continue to?) have no problems with the host.

-Peter

Good work, Greggy and Phil!

I love people who have an open mind and are flexible in their decision-making.

It's a sign of intelligence, and I congratulate you both for adjusting to the call of the marketplace.

Now go lift some weights and I'll be impressed even more.  LOL

Thanks to both of your for the great work you do.
