I just went onto their board, it's full of spam, naked pics, it looks abandoned. Are those guys still alive? There used to be a couple of good posters there.

I check their message board almost daily.  Like many on-line communities, they are a target of inappropriate postings but they seem to get them cleaned up in about 24 hours.  Of course, they usually get more the same day.  The regulars over there still post but there is not nearly the activity as this board and they usually only post when asked a question.  Since the traffic is light, that doesn't happen very often.

There are bots (as in robots) out there specifically designed to seek out message boards and blogs and spam them with ads for pornography and pills and such.  Free message boards that don't require registration are especially vulnerable.

It's a symptom of less than stellar security, not that they're somehow defunct.  SOCALCIA's got lots going for them right now.

Kawika Ohumukini is their moderator and although he doesn't post here much any more I think he still reads here...

I'm going to email him and see what's what...

perhaps he just needs to monitor more or adjust filters?

Edit:
After looking more closely at the message board dates, it appears that the spam listed in just from the past few days...so perhaps it's simply that Kawika is on a nice long weekend?!

I see they got that dirty staff cleaned off today, it's good.

Looks like people changed there recently too. Sampson became the main regular poster and he's rather helpful; I spoke with Alex last night, he's not with the SOCALCIA anymore. For some reason I don't see Jason posting anything there. Who's Kawika?

I wasn't going to say anything but i will throw this in.
I post on here now because those guys went away. Nice people with good intentions but their opinions became the 'norm'. Sampson posted so much it was like his word was god. Although a good natured guy I seriously disagreed with his affirmation of Conti/Finkel. Why I had to hear about the foreign exchange game on a Real Estate Investors Board I'll never understand. I loved that Alex guys input about the fed and rates. That Kawika guy had good stuff on Marketing.

I like the full breadth of experience that shows up here. Every little bit helps. This is San Diego and you have got to bring some serious game to make it.

I think Sampson has good experience with smaller deals, doesn't have much experience on a larger scale. I really liked Alex's feedback on commercial real estate, lending, creative investing, overall he showed a lot of actual experience and desire to share. Would love to know if he's posting somewhere regularly now.

I'm still not sure why Jason never posted any worthwhile advice on commercial real estate on his own board while he's promoting his "commercial seminar", may be he could get at least some legitimacy validation this way.

That club became too much like a sales club, not sure why they even charge admission, they should pay me instead to sit through this sales staff. There is a club in North County of San Diego that went the same way, now they're dying slowly it seems.  History teaches us nothing.

I think everyone is getting into Rare Coins and Gold Bullion and Precious Metals. Those are going to be the big hitters and the hot new trend.

Real Estate now in the minds of the mases is like an SUV in a oil crisis... and you know North County... following the trends and looking good. The younger sister we all have to live with.

SOCALCIA is more deal and action focused in their meetings and presenters then here.  I believe they try to be more of a club for investors to have meetings to find investment opportunities for investors to evaluate and do their own due diligence versus a more educationally focused club like this one.  They bring in speakers who educate you on what their doing then have investment opportunities putting into action what they just told you about.

This club does that as well, but maybe not as directly and not from the club president.  However, I believe (perhaps wrongly) Jason is a more active diversified RE investor, than Bill Tan is, as a specialist in trust deeds and the club reflects all the pies he has his fingers in.  It is not for everybody, but I like both clubs and go when the particular speaker is of interest to me.

And clearly there is far more activity on this board then there.  It is hard to build up a community the size of this one.  Jason probably doesn't reply much because he has so many things going on.  I don't know Bill's ID, here but I don't recall seeing him much on the message board-of course he has his own blog now.

We don't require registration to post on our boards and the spam is just an unfortunate consequence. We're trying to stay on top of it. Jason or Chris does most of the forum moderation, I manage the site as a whole and help answer the Email questions.

I have been on an extended leave to take care of family business. But I'm mostly back. I'll try to post here as much as possible when I have something to add to the discussion.

There is spam everyday for the last 14 days.  That is a bummer.  Has anyone attended any of their meetings lately?  I went to a few a long time ago (which were really good), but not lately, too much selling for my taste.

Hey, careful about the women :-))

I agree, too much selling, they even charge you for haves & wants. I stopped going there, can't stand the sales carnival.

I am a member, and show up to meetings about half the time. They seem to be doing fine. Just go to their website: http://www.socalcia.com

Have a great day!

The reason why I was interested in socalcia was that they focused on commercial properties in a way that most groups don't.  They seem to have had some great topics in the past.  I don't really know who runs the show there.  Who's really in charge of socalcia?

Are you also interested in commercial properties?  Are you aware of any other groups that focus on it?

Reports of Death of Socalcia may be Premature.

After reading about socalcia, I went on their free advice board.
The spam and obscene posts appear to have been removed from socalcia this morning.

Yeah, the same thing happend when this post was started, they cleaned it one day, then it reverted to the same spamfest from then on. Let's see if they can keep it clean. It just makes an impression that nobody cares there about the look of their own board.

Not to flog a dead horse, but for the last 2 days the socalcia website has been down.  All it says is; "This website is unavailable.  Please inform the systems administrator".

When they were down on Sunday, I figured it was just routine maintenance.  But they are still down on Monday.  You can't even access the old website via a cached version.

What gives?
